KCC has hosted a Freight Summit where a commitment was made to establish the Kent Freight Forum. KCC is in the process of developing a countrywide freight strategy to focus on how current freight movements can be managed and how the expected levels of growth can be met. At the same time it will ensure that negative impacts on Kent are reduced but the economic and employment opportunites are realised. The timetable is to have a Freight Strategy published by March 2009 and it will include an action plan, which will outline a range of measures to be implemented.

A contract signed between KCC and Building Schools for Future Investments mean construction can now begin to completely rebuild or substantially refurbish the first ten secondary schools in the programme. This marks a major item in the Kent's plans to combine significant investment in the state-of-the-art buildings, and ICT facilities.
